The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford. The new Debut Carbon DC has been designed to set new standards in this category for the coming decade – perfectly timed as analogue today is again a respected source, while the demand for good turntables is growing again! The most obvious improvement is the inclusion of a carbon tube for the tonearm, which in-creases stiffness and decreases unwanted resonance. This material normally is extensively used in high-end tonearms, but – because of cost reasons – was never used in products at lower price levels. Together with other improvements like an increase in platter size and weight to realise even smoother rotation, the overall sound quality is greatly improved. The approved belt drive design offers low noise AC motor with effective motor decoupling (utilising TPE-damping) and ultra precision frequency DC-driven AC generator (like Speed Box) for ultimate speed stability without unwanted vibration. 

Another substantial sonic improvement comes with the inclusion of the highly acclaimed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge/stylus combination.The 2M stylus features an elliptical stylus with is a much finer cut of diamond that not only extracts more information from the record grooves but decreases record wear due to its larger footprint in the groove thus spreading the stylus pressure.

In terms of tonal balance, the ProJect Debut Carbon and Ortofon 2M Red combination sounds neutral with crystalline highs and velvety mid-range.It's a clean, insightful sound that digs deep to reveal all manner of texture and nuance in the music. All the while, the deck keeps a firm grip on the musical structure, with a good level of rhythmic precision.It’s expressive, clearly displaying a good deal of subtlety and fairly wide dynamics.Every little attention to detail for damping has paid off as the ProJect doesn’t pick up any noise from the motor.The turntable is extremely quiet, which lets you hear more of the record itself instead of the hum of a motor or the subtle vibration of an a poorly damped turntable.
