Description
Meet the AXC35 CD Player
The AXC35 is a versatile, gapless playback CD player featuring a high quality digital to analogue converter (DAC), to convert the digital information stored on a CD into an analogue sound signal. As well as regular audio CDs, the AXC35 will play MP3 and WMA files from home recorded CD-R, CD-RW and CD-ROM discs.
There’s also a dedicated digital output which allows you to record from a CD to a digital format or even connect to a standalone DAC when you’re ready to improve your sound even further.
Performance
The Cambridge Audio AXC-35 is the matching CD player to go with the AXA35 amplifier. It does include a digital coaxial output so if you ever upgrade your amplifier to a streamer with a high-quality built-in DAC, it’s possible to use the AXC-35 as a transport mechanism. It is very well built and doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap and the design is really pleasing and looks reassuringly solid.
The player’s onboard DAC is a Wolfson WM8524, a tried and tested design that produces a smooth signal that’s both musical and rhythmic. There’s also gapless playback on offer. It plays everything that you could throw at it, including CD-R and CD-RW recordings. It even plays back some discs made containing MP3 and WMA files. MP3 files on CD-Rs are often overlooked.
The sound is superb particularly when it is paired with the matching Cambridge Audio AXA35 amplifier.
