Mission 778CDT CD Transport

Housed in the same elegant, compact half-width design and striking retro form that made the 778X a modern classic, the 778CDT completes the 778 Series as its dedicated CD transport — a digital-first device designed for audio purity and seamless system integration.

The 778CDT is a dedicated, compact, purposeful and digitally optimised CD Transport, designed for pure signal delivery and seamless system integration.

The Mission 778X marked the brand’s return to integrated amplification after more than three decades — a compact, powerful amplifier that redefined expectations at its price point. Built on that foundation, the 778CDT brings the same philosophy to CD playback: focused design, uncompromising engineering, and music as the priority.

Engineering and Performance Guaranteed

At its heart, the 778CDT employs a custom CD transport mechanism with a precision servo control system, engineered to ensure stable disc rotation, accurate tracking, and robust error correction. A temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) is used as the master clock, significantly reducing jitter and delivering a clean, stable SPDIF signal to the downstream DAC.

True to Mission’s engineering philosophy, the design avoids unnecessary complexity. Key circuit functions — transport, laser, decoder, and master clock — are powered by dedicated low-noise supplies, minimising interference and preserving signal integrity throughout the playback chain.

The result is a digital output that remains faithful to the source, allowing connected DACs to perform at their best.

Connectivity & Digital Flexibility

Digital output is provided via both coaxial and optical SPDIF, ensuring straightforward compatibility with the internal DAC of the 778X or any high-quality external DAC system.

Beyond disc playback, the 778CDT also supports USB-HDD music playback, extending its role as a versatile digital transport. High-resolution audio files stored on USB devices — including FLAC, WAV, MP3, WMA, and APE — are handled using the same precision clocking and low-noise architecture as CD playback, ensuring consistent performance across physical and locally stored digital media.

Design Philosophy and Core Technology

  • Playback from CD, CD-R, CD-RW, Data CD or USB-HDD
  • Compatible with CD/CD-R/CD-RW and data CD formats
  • High-end CD mechanism with a precision optical system
  • OLED display with CD text support
  • Fully functioning remote control
  • (also compatible with the Mission 778X and 778S components)

Mission 778S Wireless Music Streamer

mission-778s-wireless-music-streamer-black-front-hero-stereophonic.pngThe Mission 778S is Mission’s first wireless music streamer and it has been meticulously designed as the perfect digital partner for the acclaimed 778X integrated amplifier.

Bringing seamless, high-quality streaming to modern music lovers, the 778S combines intuitive app control, flexible connectivity and audiophile-grade engineering — all housed in the same elegant, compact half-width design and striking retro form that made the 778X a modern classic.

The 778S is a complete, future-ready streaming hub—delivering music with the purity and presence Mission is renowned for.

778 Series

The 778X marked Mission’s return to integrated amplification after more than three decades, setting a new benchmark for compact, high-value hi-fi electronics.

Now, the 778S completes the system — delivering modern streaming performance with the same musical priorities, visual harmony, and attention to engineering detail. Designed specifically for 778X owners and contemporary hi-fi systems, the 778S becomes the streaming soul of your setup.

Mission has long earned its reputation through loudspeakers that defy expectations — delivering exceptional sound, refined design, and extraordinary value. In that same spirit, the 778 series revives a beloved Mission concept, blending vintage aesthetics with forward-thinking performance.

Steaming Platform & Control

As with any network audio device, the streaming platform’s stability and fidelity are paramount. With the 778S, beneath the Mission styling lies a platform developed in collaboration with Silent Angel, maestros in high-end digital audio streaming. Powered by a custom implementation of the Silent Angel streaming engine — and optimised by Mission engineers — the 778S delivers superior fidelity, rock-solid stability, and remarkable versatility.

Accessing music is effortless through the Mission 778S app, which carries the full power of the Silent Angel ecosystem. Stream directly from Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, TuneIn Radio, DLNA, Airplay 2 and USB HDD devices, all with a sleek, responsive interface. And for advanced users, the 778S is fully Roon Ready — certified for bit-perfect playback and seamless integration over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, with no setup required.

Getting started is quick and simple, with configuration over dual-band Wi-Fi or Gigabit Ethernet. Whether controlling playback from a smartphone, tablet, or desktop, users enjoy robust performance and intuitive control at every level.

Engineering and Performance Guaranteed

At its heart, the 778S features the ESS Technology ES9038Q2M Reference DAC, employing 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator technology for ultra-low noise and exceptional signal integrity.

All incoming audio is precision upsampled to 352.8kHz or 384kHz — pushing digital artefacts beyond the audible spectrum and allowing the DAC to operate in its optimal linear range. The result is cleaner transients, greater dynamic nuance, and a more natural soundstage.

Music gains space, texture, and presence — not through excess processing, but through careful engineering.

Users can override the upsampling facility and apply one of five DAC reconstruction filters to fine-tune the sound to their taste. These ‘sonic tailoring’ options are especially useful given the variable quality of digital audio formats and streaming services.

Connectivity & Flexibility

To support a wide range of systems and preferences, the 778S offers both digital (USB Audio, SPDIF coaxial, optical) and analogue outputs. Whether paired with the 778X, a standalone DAC, powered speakers, or integrated amp, the 778S adapts to any setup with elegance and ease.

Analogue outputs — including a pair of balanced XLR connections — unlock the full potential of high-resolution formats such as DSD, bypassing the sample-rate limitations often associated with digital-only connections like SPDIF. The balanced signal path further reduces noise and interference over longer cable runs, preserving signal integrity and delivering pure, uncompromised sound exactly as the DAC was designed to provide.

The 778S also facilitates private listening via its onboard headphone amplifier, capable of driving a wide range of headphone types with clarity, power, and precision. Whether you’re using reference-grade over-ears or everyday dynamic cans, the 778S delivers a performance that rivals standalone headphone amps — matching the digital streaming credentials for a complete listening hub in the hi-fi and head-fi domains.

As with all Mission products — loudspeakers or electronics — specs are just the start. The real goal is music in true-to-life form.

Music is the master. Technology follows.

For a Complete, Curated System for Optimal Performance, why note add the 778X Integrated Amplifer?

Together, the 778S, 778X, and 778CDT form a complete, modular hi-fi ecosystem — compact, stackable, and designed for serious listening without unnecessary complexity.

As with all Mission products, the 778CDT is not defined by specifications alone. It exists to serve the music — delivering clarity, timing, and emotional connection in a system built to last.
